MD VS FSU Sim(s)

Well the simulator's biggest nightmare has come true.  A game time decision on Sam Hollenbach's injury will force me to do two sims this week.  So the first one features Hollenbach.  Lets see how it goes!

Corso is going with his Alma Mater (as are the others).  MD kicks off and FSU returns it out to the 26.  On second and 1, Leon Washington took it 66 yards for the score.  FSU 7, MD 0, 4:26 left in the first.  On first down from the 21, Ball runs for 3.  On second Hollenbach is sacked on a play action pass.  3rd and 14.  Doak is going nuts.  Terps can't hear the audible.  Once the play is finally snapped, Sam leads Jo Jo a bit too much and it goes off his finger tips.  On the punt coverage Josh Wilson is hurt.  FSU has it on their own 38.  On second and 10, Washington picks up 9.  On 3rd and 1 Jeremy Navarre makes the stop.  They punt on 4th and inches.  Jo Jo makes the fair catch at the 15.  Ball gains 3 on first.  Jo Jo got pushed out on second down.  An offsides gives MD 3rd and 2, and Ball is stopped in the back field.  Punt.  FSU takes over on their 32.  Washington picks up the first.  A couple of pass plays later, and it is first down at the 20.  Washington gets 11 on a pitch left.  Weatherford hits TE Matt Henshaw for a TD.  14-0 with 0:17 left in the first.  Josh Wilson checks back in and returns the ball out to the 16.  Ball for 3 on first down again.  Onto the second quarter.  Ball stopped for another loss.  3rd and 12.  Sack and Podlesh comes out to punt from his own end zone.  FSU returns it across mid field and down to the 46.  Washington for 9, and over 100 in the game already.  Weatherford hits a WR across the middle for another first down.  A run by the FB gets it down to the 9.  Washington down to the 4.  2nd and 3.  Washington punches it in easily for 6 more off left tackle.  MD get the ball with 2:36 left in the half.  Hollenbach hits VD for 8 as he stepped out of bounds.  A fake pitch and a screen to VD for a loss of 5.  Ball for a loss of 1 on 3rd.  TO FSU, and they look to take a commanding lead.  Podlesh lets loose another boomer, and FSU takes over on their 34.  Weatherford passes for 10 on the first down.  Josh Wilson made a nice play covering Cromartie step for step down the sideline.  Wilson knocks one down that should have been picked off.  3rd and 10, Weatherford throws a screen and it is stopped for a loss.  MD takes over at the 10 after a fair catch.   A HB pass back to Hollenbach results in a loss of 4!  Throw that play out!!!  MD sees satisfied to let the clock expire, but then all of the sudden Hollenbach takes the snap and hits Jo Jo for a first down.  On first down a draw to Ball gets 6, and the clock expires.  21-zippy at the half.

MD set to receive to start the second half.  Jo Jo brings it out to the 17.  MD had 6 total yards in the first half.  A pass to VD gets zippy on first.  A run up the middle results in a loss of 1.  INTERCEPTION.  Can this get any more painful to watch???  The kicker is I still have to watch Statham's!  3rd and 1 up coming for FSU, and it is PICKED OFF by Gerick McPherson, who decided to turn around and actually saw the ball.  Ball for 2.  Ball gains 4 more.  Hollenbach over throws FB Tim Cesa, and Podlesh is out again.  MD forces a fumble on the punt, but it is recovered by FSU at the 16.  MD forces a punt.  Jo Jo returns the ball to the 47.  Miller drops the next pass.  Just like that 4th and 5.  Into the end zone with the punt.  MD forces a punt.  Ball gains 9 on first down.  Ball gains the first.  Ball loses one.  VD gains 3.  Hollenbach is sacked.  They go for it on fourth, unsuccessful.  Cromartie scores a 63 yard TD. 28-0 zippy with 0:54 left.  A Hollenbach shovel pass to VD for a loss of 9.  Fenner gains on a short pass.  A pass to Melendez makes the catch, but comes up short of the first.  Podlesh punts again (I think I saw his cyber leg fly off).  Time expires and FSU pulls out the win 28-0.  No need for stats!

On to the Joel Statham sim.  (Check back Saturday morning).

As promised here is the Joel Statham scenario.  Once again all three announcers are saying it doesn't appear to be much of a match up.  MD will kick off.  Touch back and FSU will start at the 20.  Booker breaks a tackle in the backfield and gains 14 after that.  on Second down Conrad Bolston laid out Booker.  They are say thing that may be the hit of the year.  On 3rd and 8, the pass is incomplete and FSU WILL PUNT!  Jo Jo returns the punt 3 yards to the 20.  On first down Tim Cesa gains 8.  Second down was an incomplete as Joel got killed.  Cesa gets another carry and picks up the first.  On second and 10, Statham got sacked for a loss of 7.  FYI Doak is deemed the 11th toughest place to play.  With Statham running for his life out of the pocket he lets it fly and it is nearly picked off.  Podlesh out to punt.  FSU takes over at the 31.  On first down Weatherford hits the FB for a first down.  Booker is starting to get going and FSU is down to the 32.  Down to the 16 after another run.  David Halloway read the option nicely for a 1 yard loss.  Washington pounds his way to the first.  First and goal from the 4, A delayed draw from the shotgun to Booker results in an easy TD.  7-0 with 7 ticks left in the first.  MD takes over at the 16.  Statham hits VD for a gain of 4 as he is knocked OB.  The first quarter comes to an end.  Ball was gobbled up in the backfield.  Loss of 8.  3rd and 12, Statham has time, looks down field, and hits Danny Melendez across midfiled and down to the 41!  Ball for a gain of 7 on first down.  Ball breaks through t line, and down to the 20.  Ball with a catch out of the backfield for a gain 2.  VD with a catch along the sideline, but again is pushed out after a gain of 1.  Broken play and Statham tries to scramble and loses 5.  Ennis converts the FG.  7-3, with 2:38 remaining in the half.  MD kicks off and stop FSU at the 17. Booker stopped after a short gain.  Booker stopped after another short gain, and the Terps take a TO.  How is that for confidence.  Weatherford's pass is broken up Barnes.  The punt is shanked and MD takes over at the 34.  Ball gains 9 on first down of left tackle.  Playaction pass to Fenner at the one, and he drops it.  Ughh.  3rd and 1, Statham looked for Miller, and it fell incomplete.  Ennis on to attempt a 42 yarder.  Oh wow, a fake, as Podlesh hit VD down to the 10.   Brilliant!!!!!  Statham on an option loss of 2.  1 minute and counting.  VD get the carry!  down to the 5.  On 3rd down Statham is sacked, and again Ennis is carted out to attempt a 25 yarder.  It is . . .  GOOD!  Boom.  9 seconds remain in the half, and the score is FSU 7-6.  Touchback.  Dq'well stops Booker in the backfield for a loss of 3, as the half expires.  The Defense is fired up for this one!

MD is set to receive.  Jo Jo returns it out to the 21.  Statham on play action, and FSU bites, Melendez is wide open down the side line and goes untouched for the 79 yard TD!!!!!!  Fridge says go for two, and another play action is called and Joel finds VD wide open!!!!  14-7 MD with 4:48 left in the third.  Dq'well is fired up playing in front of 30+ friends and family members, stops Booker for no gain.  On 3rd and 10, the snap nearly sails over Weatherfords head, and by the time he got composed, William Kershaw was there to meet him.  FSU punts from their own end zone, and Jo Jo returned the punt to the 50.  Statham hit Cesa for a gain of 5.  A pitch out to Ball, and he throws it across the middle for a wide open Derrick Fenner for a first down at the 23.  Ball gains two on a toss right.  Ball gains 1.  3rd and 7, Statham from the shotgun, and it is a draw to Ball (that rhymes) for one.  Ennis from 36 is GOOD!!!!  17-7 with 1:52 left in the third.  I am starting to get the warm feeling inside.  The kick is a touchback.  Booker gained 4 on first.  Weatherford is sandwiched by Holloway and Wesley Jefferson.  3rd and 13.  The pass is complete, but Mr. Florida Dq'well Jackson makes sure it is only a gain of 3.  After the punt Jo Jo takes it out the MD 43.  Statham rolls out, looks deep and hit Fenner who had a step on the corner.  He is taken down at the 3.  Another play action, Statham throws to Miller in the end zone, and it is dropped.  Did he ever hear of VD?  Statham gives himself some room, but over throws Miller in the corner of the end zone.  On 3rd down, the give is to Ball who gains 1.  Cue Ennis from 19, and it is good.  That one may come back to haunt them.  They had the chance to drop the dagger, or spear in the case of the Noles, and only got 3.  At the end of the 3rd quarter is 20-7 MD.  Cyber Cell phones are ringing in Boston, College Park, Naptown, Ocean City, and in the District.  Booker looks like VD carrying Terps down field with him.  Weatherford is sacked on 2nd and 3.  3rd and 7 coming up.  Weatherford had the first down to his TE, but he dropped it.  FSU to punt from the 44.  A punt that went to the moon, but it went OB at the 35.  Ball for a gain of one.  Tick, tick, tick.  3:20 and counting.  Ball on the give for one more well earned yard.  Tick, tick.  2:44 and counting.  Cesa on the give for a gain of 3.  Podlesh out to punt.  Tick, Tick.  2:00 to go.  Podlesh's punt rolls into the endzone for a touch back.  1:55 left.  Weatherford to Cromartie to the 48.  Booker on a toss for a gain of two.  Oh no the FSU goes no huddle and I can't keep up.  Booker get the first.  Booker gets another carry down to the 19.  Pitch left down to the 8.  1:05 and counting.  Weatherford hit a WR, but he is tackled at the 3.  TO FSU.  Weatherford whips the next one to the corner of the endzone, and it is picked off by Gerrick McPherson!!!!  Terps take over at the 20.  Tim Cesa for 1.  TO FSU.  Ball gains 6.  TO FSU (their last).  3rd and 3.  Ball makes an incredible spin move to get the first by inches!!!  Get those couches protected at cyber frat row!!  MD pulls off the biggest upset with Joel Statham filling in for Sam Hollenbach.  He has their number.  I will give you stats for this one!!!!
