2005 UVA @ MD Sim

Well here we are for the 2005 Cyber homecoming game.  It looks like a great afternoon for football!  Herbie goes with the Cav's and Marquees Hagans to pull out the W, but Corso dons the Testudo head.  Off to the opening kick off.  The big line up change this week is Keon Lattimore moving from 3rd string to first.  MD wins the toss and defers.  UVA returns the kick out to the 21.  MD forced a 3rd and 5, and actually made the stop on one of UVA's patented screen.  After a punt and a fair catch, Keon Lattimore took his first touch as a starter for 68 yards down to the 4.   Wow, what a start.  On first and goal, Hollenbach hits Lattimore out of the backfield and he is drilled at the goal line and fumbles.  UVA recovers on the one.  They convert second and long and get it out to the 13.  On 3rd and 11, the snap nearly sailed over Hagans' head, and McPherson made a nice pass break up to force a punt that was returned by JoJo to the MD 47 before being lit up!   A brilliant play action pass to VD for a first down and more down to the 39.  After a Derek Miller reception on second down brought up 3rd and 4. The play goes to Lattimore, but he is strung out for a loss.  The Terps go for it on 4th from the 36 and convert with a strike to Fenner down the left side.  First and goal from the 3.  Hollenbach hit a WIDE open Derek Miller for 6.  Ennis converts the XP for a 7-0 lead with 17 seconds left.  A screen pass on second down gets the ball out to the 29 as the quarter expires.  On 3rd and 10 Hagans was hit as he threw and they punted away for a touch back after the incomplete.  A Hollenbach play action fooled no one on first including Jermaine Dias who had a 6 yard sack.  On third and 16, Sam and JoJo hooked up for a big play and a first down out to their own 36.  Hollenbach again sacked on first down.  On second down Ricardo Dickerson was stopped on a short gain.  On third and long Brandon Schmidt made a huge sack.  Podlesh unleashed a boot, and UVA returned it out to the 25.  A third and 11 with 2 minutes left is broken up by Chris Varner on a deep pass by Hagans to force a punt that Jo Jo returned to the MD 40.  Hollenbach was intercepted and returned to the 10 on first down by Marcus Hamilton.  First and 10 at the 10 and a half.  First down Hagans was drilled as he tried to throw.  On second down Hagans to it to pay dirt on an option keeper.  Connor Hughes (sounds like UVA name doesn't it?) nails the XP.  All knotted up with 1:30 left in the half.  Jo Jo returned it out of the end zone to the 20.  Sam and Fenner hooked up for a first down out to the 37.  Hollenbach hooked up with VD on first for a 6 yard gain.  Hollenbach this time hooked up with Drew Weatherly down to the 23.  This time he hooked up with Fenner across the middle down to the 7.  His next pass hits VD in the right flat and he broke one tackle at the three and rolled over one more at the goal line to make it to the end zone for 6.  Ennis is again good on the XP.  Hollenbach was perfect on the drive that gave the Terps the lead with 0:44 remaining.  UVA elects to attempt to run the ball with Lundy to end the half.  14-7 at the half.

Hughes kicks off to Lattimore who gets it out to the 28.  On the first play Lattimore took it up the middle for 13.  A toss to Lattimore results in a gain of two.  2nd and 8 Miller dropped a pass from Sam.  Third down was a replay of second.  Podlesh to punt from the MD 43.  Excellent coverage gets UVA taken down at the 14.  A few plays later they get a first down to the 26 with a pass to the TE.  David Holloway make a sack for a loss of 7.  Hagans again hooks up with his TE to get back to the original line of scrimmage.  Luckily for McPherson, Hagans over threw a wide open receiver.  The punt goes out of bounds at the 41.  VD made an excellent catch on a deflection, but came up a yard short of the first, and the opt to punt which goes into the end zone for a touch back.  Lundy picked up 16 on first down.  A play action pass to the TE results in first down to the 37.  Another Lundy run got the ball down to the 24.  The Terps have been half a step late all day getting to Hagans forcing these week little incompletes.  3rd and 10 from the 24 and Lundy threw a jump ball to the corner of the end zone and Fontel Mines out leapt Josh Wilson for the TD.  Hughes kick is good, and we are all tied up with 15 seconds left in the quarter.  MD takes over at the 24 after Wilson returned it out of the end zone.  Hollenbach hit Jo Jo for a first down across the middle to the 39 to end the quarter.  Hollenbach hit Miller for a gain of 7.  There was some contact on a pass attempt to Weatherly, but the flag was not thrown.  On third and 3 Lattimore was stopped a yard short.  Podlesh trots out to punt again.  He drilled out of the end zone in the air.  Lundy picked up 14.  Does the Terps run defense have enough left to make a stand?  Hagans hits the TE again for a gain of 6.  Lundy stopped for no gain by Holloway.  Jeremy Navare made a huge tackle to force 4th and 1.  UVA elects to punt and the punt is shanked for a net of 13 yards.  MD takes over at the 37.  Hollenbach dumped one out to VD on a TE screen, but UVA was all over it.  A pass out in the flats is another two yard loss.  VD make a catch runs for 6 and again comes up a yard short after breaking one tackle.  Podlesh again boots one through the end zone with 1:43 left.  UVA takes over at their own 20.  8 yard pass .  Short gain by Lundy for the first.  Lundy stopped for no gain by Dq'well.  Next play he drilled Lundy forcing  a fumble, but UVA recovered.  3rd and 12 is complete, but the gain was only for 9 yards.  UVA to punt with 55 ticks remaining.  Jo Jo has 4 returns for an average of 1.7 yards.  47 seconds left.  Hollenbach hit Fenner along the sideline and instead of stepping out tried to turn in to gain more.  Hollenbach drilled on 2nd and 7.  3rd and 7, and Hollenbach hit Fenner out to the 50 with :31 left.  A roll out and heave to the end zone is broken up by UVA. Sam hit Fenner for one yard.  This time he made it out.  3rd and 9 with :17 left.  Fenner on a button hook down to the 20. with 9 seconds.  No TO called and I am going nuts.  Hollenbach throws into double coverage in the end zone.  The ball is tipped and Fenner comes down with it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!   I don't believe what I just saw (cue Kirk Gibson HR audio).   I don't believe what I just saw.  Wow I am pumped, this calls for a celebratory beverage!!!!!!  Lets hope the real game is at least important at the end of the game.
