EPISODE 3 By Chris B. As the countdown to kickoff runs down on D7's homepage, the one thing that keeps it moving along for me is Terrapin Rising. I can honestly say I really look forward to this, even though it is on Monday night. I know they are putting it out there to try and get more tickets sold, but I really wonder if the average fan, who might go to a game if a friend calls and says "hey I got some free tix for the Terps and GT, do you want to go" really watch this show in the middle of the summer. Maybe this was a good week. If you don't like homerun derby what else was there to watch? Well enough of my thoughts on the theory of the show, lets recap what happened on the field. Well in the last episode Bob remarked how he wouldn't be able to play QB even if God blessed him with Boomers arm. I have a feeling I wouldn't even be able to to hold the line on Fridges head set after hearing walk on, Matt Goldberg's story. You could tell everyone liked the kid, but he really has no shot to get any pt. Yet whenever they needed a player on the field Goldberg went out there looking to make his mark. This week we got a little glimpse of him on the field. Fridge said, he can't run, or block, and catches Ok. They flat out told him he couldn't play WR for MD. So in this episode, he gets a shot as a place holder on the FG team. I am thinking wow. That is still pretty cool. So he gets out there and does a pretty good job in practice. Then we get to a scrimmage and he botches the hold, and is forced to try and run for it. Needless to say Fridge is irate, and again tells him we have no confidence in you to get the job done under pressure. Here is the difference between myself, and someone who is on the team. With that I would have crumbled like a cookie dropped from the top of the Empire State Building. Goldberg on the other hand wants to show them what he is made of, and wants to prove them wrong. From that day on he worked really hard, and improved a great deal. In the end Fridge feels much better about him and says if he is going to get on the field this is how he will do it. Morgan Green continued to impress and he spoke of a play where is all just "clicked" and he felt he belonged out there. He also said with his confidence on the field, it has made him work harder in the class room, and went from C's (as in Cat) to A's and B's. Fridge also spoke of the different motivation techniques he has to use, and then when all of the sudden the player gets it and realizes while the coaches were riding the player, how rewarding it was. Fridge also was ripping Portis for not knowing the plays, and Portis admitted he has work to do. Chris Turner talked about not necessarily understanding why he went from two to three on the depth chart after one day. I bet he will get his shot someday. He looks like a QB out there. One other minor event they showed was a player being punished. He had to run up and down every aisle way from the field to the top of the bleachers, all the way around the stadium. Hmm seems like fun to me!!! That is about all I remember of the episode, so check back for next weeks recap. |
