MD 13 VT 23
Overall: When you look at the big scheme of things, this game was important, but not the game that would make or break the season. We still have some big match ups ahead. You just had to feel that it was a really good chance to get that win against VT. Even as we walked into the stadium we had no idea of who was going to be Tech’s QB. Both Tyrod Taylor and Sean Glennon were hurt in their last game with ankle injuries. They were down to their third string QB, and he was a WR. We all know the Hokies record on Thursday nights, and let me tell you, the atmosphere is impressive when they break into Enter Sandman. The place is electric. It really is cool.
With all that in our favor, we just couldn’t put it together. I guess since Tech wasn’t ranked, we really didn’t have a chance. For once we were ranked this year, and it didn’t last one game. If you look at the game, other than the fact they totally ran it down our throats at will (A single game VT record of 257 yards for a redshirt freshman Evans,) we had numerous chances, but just couldn’t take advantage. On the first drive we looked like world-beaters, only to sputter, and have to attempt a FG, that we missed. Then even after we were down big, we get the blocked punt. Things starting to turn around? No we are forced to punt, but they muff it. We recover just outside the 10 I believe. That leads only to 3 points. Those are two opportunities where you need more than 3 points. We did manage to cut the lead to 7 with a Heyward-Bey touchdown, on kind of an underneath WR screen pass, where he just outran everyone. They should run that play once a quarter! I really feel like this entire game was just a case of missed opportunities. Tech was short handed, they gave us chances, and they just couldn’t walk through the door.
What does it all mean?: Well, if you get out your abacus, you can quickly tell that 10 teams in the ACC still have a shot at the championship game in Tampa. I won’t even begin to figure it out, but suffice it to say, every game from here on out is huge, and even if we win two, with some help we can get there. At the moment though, should the Terps win out, they will win the Atlantic division!
Game MVP: Wow, this is tough, I will have to Say Alex “Wejack” Wuicjak. They butchered it all night, so he must have had quite a few tackles. . . 10 yards down field. I really don’t have anyone that stood out for this one.
Game Lowlights (-)12 yards rushing for the Terps, 275 for the Hokies. That pretty much is Austin Powers in a nutshell.
Game highlights. Despite how poorly they played, they did have a chance to tie the game up. |
