Boston College Recap

The Terps welcomed the Eagles to the ACC by beating them 73-71 in a nail biter at Comcast.  Ikene Ebekwe came out on fire and helped lead the Terps to victory.  Maryland  finally gets their first legitimate big win of the year.  In fact throw out the 2 Duke wins last year and this is our best performance in maybe 2 years.  Boston College played tough but in the end Maryland proved too deep for the Eagles.  Of course the outcome could very well been different but had BC shot better than 5-15 from the foul line.  That crap may cut it in the Big East, but this is the big time gentleman.

BC was able to give Maryland fans a heart attack and a nasty flashback to the Gone in 60 seconds game.  Maryland somehow couldn’t successfully inbound the ball under their own basket which gave the Eagles one last shot to win or tie.  Luckily incompetence was contagious in the last 2 seconds as BC harmlessly threw the ball down the length of the court and out of bounds.

Regardless Gary Williams (now only 8 wins behind Lefty on the All Time list) takes his team into the Exam break with a ton of momentum and now has 4 cup cakes coming up.  If the Terps can run the table the next few weeks we could be looking at 11-2 and a POSSIBLE top 10 ranking.  And if I want to get WAY ahead of myself, if we get to 11-2 and beat Miami we would be 12-2 going into Durham (you can almost hear the ESPN producers salivating).  But anyway, back to the facts.  Terps improve to 1-0 in conference play and get a huge confident boost.

D-7 MVP-  I am starting to notice an early season trend, in what turned out to be a stellar performance the D-7 MVP goes to Ekene Ibekwe.  The “Big Skinny”*(Trade Mark Pending) filled it up early, a time where the Terps are usually sleep walking.  Ibekwe went 8-13 from the field, 5-8 from the foul line (which is kind of surprising since he had been improving on that front), grabbed 9 boards, and had 21 points.  Big Skinny also blocked 1 and stole 2.  I am not sure how many MVP’s he has on the year now, but he is rapidly rising on my list of Terps I cuss the least.

Honorable Mention:  This weeks honorable mention goes to McCray.  You could probably make an argument that he was MVP, but his 5 TO’s kept him off the list.  McCray did throw down 16, with a clutch performance at the line (7-8).

Random Thought of the Day:  This break is killing me!!!

Factoid Alert:  In the last 5 years, Maryland is 13-8 versus top 10 teams.
