Tailgate Quote:

Immigrant Woman:  Where did you get Hat?  Very Nice.

Chris:  University of Maryland Bookstore

Immigrant Woman:  Very expensive?

Chris: No not really, on sale for $12

Immigrant Woman:  Yes, but very expensive to get to MD.

Chris:  Good point.

Overall:  This is kind of bittersweet.  Sure I got one extra "tailgate" in over you, but now my season is over.  Tailgating at BC, is not what we have come to know and love in Lot 1.  There were no footballs, no gambling games, and most importantly no flip cup.  Since there were none of these things, on Friday night, I did download the corn hole and beer pong games for the Wii, so I would get my fill.  My neighbor Tim came up and we played them and had a good time with them.  So that takes us to Saturday morning.  We doctored up some OJ for our long ride on the "T" out to BC.  We were told Roggies was going to open at 10:00, that was a lie.  They opened at "eleve" according to the nice young man cleaning the glass on the doors. That was only the start of the day.

So we were walking around and there was another bar right around the corner, that didn't appear open, yet there were some older BC fans in there, so we went in, the bar tender hooked us, and then all of the sudden, she said she couldn't serve anyone, and we all had to leave.  Interesting.  Downed the Sam Winter, and continued on our quest to find something else to do.  This is where the immigrant woman started asking about the hat.  So after walking around aimlessly we went back to Roggies, and it was about quarter of "eleve", but we were able to get in.  So at first it was just Tim the neighbor and I.  We saw they had these huge Beer tower things, so we tried to order one of them.  They shot us down since we needed three people to be allowed to have them.  A couple of minutes later, a nice older member of MGN and the Terrapin Club started to talk to us, and we invited him over to sit with us.  He did not drink, but he was the missing ingredient to us getting the large on table beer dispenser.  Some of you may have gotten a text pic of this device.  I can't remember the gentleman's name (shocker), but we talked about all things Terps.  Cosh must go, we expected more from an offense with Heyward-Bey, and weren't all that impressed with what Franklin has done.  Pretty much the same conversations that we have in lot 1 each week.

A bit later Megan joined us, and then her Friend Kaye and a friend of hers used my other tickets.  We had some food, and the MD crowd started to grow a little bit, but not like the first time two years ago.  Things get a little fuzzy toward the end of my time at Roggies, but I found my way over to Tim's friends Danny's tailgate on the BC campus.  From all I hear about BC donors, you have to give big bucks to get a parking permit, so I am guessing Danny's family donates a nice chunk, since they were pretty close to the stadium.  His family was very nice, we talked a little ACC football, and had a couple more drinks before heading into the stadium.

Like I said, it was nice to get out an do something for the game, but it not the same.  I am not sure that BC will ever change, and the only thing I worry about is the day when lot 1 becomes a parking garage, and we no longer have the room for all of our usual fun. The Brewtender Dispenser

Tailgate highlight:  I will have to go with the MGN guy sitting with us so we could get the beer tower thing.  This picture is a little like it, but ours didn't have the ice thing in the middle.

Tailgate Lowlight:  There are many things.  You can bash BC's rules, and lack of parking, you could look around and know this wasn't a true D7 event.  But the lowlight for me was the turnout in general.  This game wound up not being as big as it once was thought, but Roggies wasn't packed with red like it was two years ago for a noon game!

Tailgate MVP:  I am going with anyone who showed up, so that is pretty much, Megan (who was there after working 30 hours), Tim, Kaye and her friend, and yours truly.

Honorable Mention:  That has to go to the MGN guy!

Conclusion:  Well this is most likely my last tailgate.  I would be up for a bowl, but all indications are that we could wind up in Boise.  I just don't see that one working for me, yet I would actually really like to go out there, but we shall see.  It was a great season, and great time with good friends.  Bob quoted Tyson, about how it really has nothing to do with football.  For me I can say that is the case even more so, now that we have been gone for so many years now.  You look back at all the times we used to do things together, watching games, golfing, going out, you name it.  You really don't know how good you have it until you are removed for a while.  I for one miss those things, and tailgating is a way for me to get all of those things in a one day period.  So until our next get together, go Terps.

So Until then, don't forget:

  •     Consolation cigars < victory cigars
  •     Tailgating anywhere > tailgating at BC with their short hours, and limited parking spaces
  •     It is nice to have people to tailgate with or else you are drinking by yourself.
  •     And just because you drink on public transportation at 9:30 AM you are not homeless
