Duke Forecast “Predicting a Duke loss is easy, it’s predicting the weather that is tough.”
I can’t say this is much anticipated,
or that it is a huge game, but the fact of the matter is that any D-1 game is
huge and will contribute to our win total and ultimately our Bowl fate. I like
everyone else is on pins and needles waiting to see if the Terps will be 3-0 or
2-1 heading into this match up. Either way this will be a key game heading into
a tough stretch for Maryland Football. The average high for September 25 in
Durham, NC is 78F°.
The low is about 57F°.
The record high for the date is a ungodly 96F°
(1933) and the record low is a down right cold 37F°
(1950). From the looks of it, I feel we will be
just at about those averages, overall a nice day for those who make the trip
down to Durham (is anyone of us going?). This is what scares me though, the
farmer’s almanac is calling for heavy rains in the Southeast on the 25th.
I just don’t see it happening. Sure it could, but with all of this rain from
Ivan and all the previous rain from Tropical Storm Gaston, it has got to end
sometime. That is why I am bucking the system and over ruling the Almanac for
the first time this year. (Crash Davis once said “Never F’ with a streak”, but I
say what does Crash Davis know, he was in the show for what like 3 weeks?). So
here is my forecast: The forecast
for the September 25, 2004 “Puke on Duke” game is for a beautiful clear day.
What autumn football in the south oughta be. The morning is going to be in the
upper 50’s which will require a light jacket for some time, but the afternoon
should warm up to the upper 70’s. A few clouds around, but no rain. However, we
must keep an eye on Hurricane Jean in the Carribean, she could mess things up
for the game if she puts her mind to it. The game time sunrise for Durham is for
7:06 am. And the sunset is scheduled for 7:08 pm, Game time is noon so the sun
should be high overhead and not in anyone’s eyes. Look here for further updates, as we get closer to game day. The X Factor- In 1989 record lows were set all across the south (though not in Durham) Atlanta Georgia, just down 85 had 4.87” of rain on that date which was the 6th highest single day record at that time (Ivan may bump that to 7th however). Also keep an eye on Jean, who could potentially (probably not likely though) be the ultimate X factor. ***This is a disclaimer to remove all responsibility on myself if this forecast is wrong. Being that it is very difficult to predict the weather greater than 48 hours in advance, the odds of needing this disclaimer are about 100%. However I do believe this forecast will be pretty close to what we can actually look to expect. |
