MD at the WVU Hoopies 2006 EA Sim
Wow these short weeks sneak up early on you! After last weeks action the Real Terps are 2-0 ($), and the cyber Terps are a hurting 1-1 (not $). A couple of line up changes for the Terps. Carlos Feliciano, and Dave Philistin are now on starting according to the depth chart, so they are in the cyber world this week. Also Gaither officially gets the nod as well. Corso predicts a WVU win, and Morgantown is rated the #15 toughest place to play. Weather looks good, lets get to the action. MD wins and defers and will kick off. WVU takes it out to the 22. On first down Tre Covington levels Slaton after a gain of one. A fake to Slaton from the shot gun is kept by White for a gain to the 30. On third and short, Slaton is stopped short, and WVU is forced to pass. Oquendo returns Kozowolski's punt 2 yards out to the 32. The Terps take over, Milan Puskar is rocking, at 119 db. Lance Ball gains ten behind Gaither. Natch second and inches. Shotgun, and Hollenbach hits Nolan Carrol for a first down to the WVU 38. Hollenbach pass floats dangerously close to being intercepted on first. Isaiah Williams gets a foot in on a side line pass for a 20 yard gain down to the 18. What a catch! Ball right for a gain of 3. Ball up the middle, a spin and gains the first. Ball is stopped for no gain on first. Ball up the middle to the 4. 3rd and goal. Hollenbach tries to audible, and hits Joey Haynos for a TD on a crossing play. Put 6 on the board. Ennis comes out for the XP, and it is good! 7-0 with 1:37 left in the first. Egekeze kicks off and it is a touch back. That has become a strong point! 3rd and 7 after two Slaton runs, they run it again and are stopped short. Kozowolski punts, and Oquendo returns it, and fumbles, recovered by . . . WVU, natch. Slaton picks up 5 on a sweep. Second down, and it is an option but Wesley Jefferson forces a bad pitch from White, and MD recovers, I couldn't tell who. Ball up the middle for a gain of 6. Lattimore is listed as the #1 back, not sure why Ball is getting all the action, but it is working well. Ball down to the 33. 2nd and 7 Ball up the middle for four. 3rd and 3. Ball gets the first. Very impressive running attack thus far. WVU is challenging the spot on the play, and it should stand in my opinion, and does! First and 10, from the 22. Ball for a gain of 2. Ball gains 5. On 3rd down White drops back and hits Darius Reynard who has beaten Gardner and outraced Wimbush all the way for the score with :28 left. XP is up and good. 10-7. MD with a quick chance to answer. McAfee is on to kick off, and Heyward-Bey returns it from the 3 up to the 50. 23 seconds left . Ball for 6 on a screen TO. Ball up the middle on a play action and Hollenbach hits him down to the 26. Hollenbach throws to the endzone, but the pass is broken up. Ennis comes out with :02 left and drills it from 43. MD 13 Wvu 7 at the half. WVU kicks off and Josh Wilson returns it out to the 28 to start the 3rd. Ball gains 14 up to the 42. Ball gains 2. Ball gets 5 out to the 50, and it is 3rd and 3. Ball again, but is stopped for no gain. For the first time of the game Podlesh comes out and a fair catch is made at the 16. Slaton stopped for no gain. Toss to Slaton and he gains 8. 3rd and 2. Tre Covington gets him for a loss on the play and WVU will punt again. Oquendo returns the punt for 4 yards to the MD 49. Hollenbach hits Ball out of the backfield. (Is there anyone else on Offense?) Ball gains 3 and it is 3rd and 1. The fans are rocking. Ball fights for a few more yards, but comes up a bit short. 4th and inches from the 41 and they punt??? Well cyber Fridge must be happy. Fair catch at the 8. Navarre with a stop behind the line on Slaton. 2nd and 11. A gain of 2, and it is 3rd and 9. White passes this time and then gets the first out to the 23. On first an option to Slaton gets 3. End of 3. Slaton gets few. 3rd and 3, and it's an option. White with a late pitch and Slaton gets the first down. Loss of 1 on first. Once again Gardner is beaten by Reynard for a 52 yard TD. XP is good, and WVU takes the lead. 14-13 with 3:50 left. WVU kicks off, and Heyward-Bey returns it to the 17 before he coughs it up, and it is recovered by Morrty Ivy. WVU first and 10 from the 16. Direct snap to Slaton, and Erin Henderson stops him behind the line. Fake handoff is gobbled up in the backfield for a loss of 5. 3rd and 17 from the 23. Wilson with a big hit on the pass, and it is called incomplete. 4th and long, and FG team is on, and McAfee hits the kick. 17-13 WVU with 2:35 left. The kick off is a touch back as Wilson fields it in the endzone. Ball of tackle for two. Ball is stopped at the 23, (gaining a hundo on the day). 3rd and 7, and Hollenbachs pass is broken up across the middle. Ralph decides its go time, and Hollenbach drops back, but it broken up and fall harmlessly to the synthetic turf as the hoopies go nuts. Two Slaton runs and two MD time outs, make it 3rd and 10 from the 23 with 1:38 left. 5 wide, and White hits Rayshan Bolden down to the 5. 2nd and goal after a nice tackle. Tick Tock. Slaton for two down to the 5, TO MD, Slaton runs again, for no gain. 4th and goal 23 yard FG attempt and the clock is running, 26, 25 and it is good. 20-13 with :21 seconds left. Do they have it in them? The kickoff is taken by Josh Wilson two yards deep out to the 22. Hollenbach has 4 wide, and is sacked. Hurry up, they get the play off, but it is a pass to Lattimore for a gain of 15, and he is tackled and time has expired. MD goes down 20-13. A hard game to lose, but they gave themselves a chance.
