2006 EA Sports Sims

The ever popular EA Sims are back for the third season.  Our friends at EA know how to kick the excitement of new college season by releasing this little gem in mid July.  The season is quickly approaching and before you know it, cyber players will give way to real life players.  I haven't even played a single down on this game yet, so the full season sim will be the first look at it, and will give us a preview of this years Terps!

Preseason accolades

Ohio St. is number one in the preseason, while Miami is #11 and the highest ACC team.  WVU is in at #8.  The Terps come in at #40 with an A- strength of schedule.  Adam Podlesh is the only Terp to garner All ACC status.   The Terps are picked to finish 7th in conference and 4th in the Atlantic Division.  Miami is picked to win the conference, and FSU to win the Division. They really went out on a limb there!  You will be happy to know Byrd is not ranked in the top 25 toughest places to play.  MAKE SOME NOISE!!!!

Week 4 VS Florida International  2-1   Win 34-17

Well if the cyber fans saw this final on the bottom line they would probably have thought the same thing you are thinking, oh an easy win.  That was not the case.  FIU jumped out to a 17-3 at the half before MD went on to score 14 in the third and 17 in the fourth for the win.  One MD TD was a 32 yard int return by David Halloway.

Week 9 VS #9 Florida State                Loss   17-14  (4-4)

MD had a 14-7 lead after 3 quarters, but as has been the case so many times, FSU finds a way to throttle the Terps in the fourth qtr to dash our hopes of the upset.  It appears Hollenbach was injured in this one and Steffy came in to throw 2 TD's.  FSU scores the go ahead TD on a 70 yard punt return with 4:11 remaining in the game.  Tisk, Tisk, tisk.

Week 10 at Clemson  5-4                     Win 42-35 1 OT

Hollenbach's injury must not have been that severe as he is cleared to play against the Tigers.  If you were late arriving to this one you missed all the fireworks.  The teams combined to score 35 points in the first 10:56.  With 6:51 left in the game Ennis connected on a 24 yard FG, 39 seconds later, J.J. Justice returned a pick 37 yards, and MD was successful on a two point conversion to cut the lead to 35-28.  With 1:03 left Steffy hit Weatherly for a 5 yard TD to tie the game.  In the first OT Steffy hit Isaiah Williams for a 25 yard TD, and the defense held for the win.

Week 11  VS  #3 Miami  (9-0)  Loss 35-10

Miami jumped out to a 14-0 half time lead.  MD made it close at 14-7, but Miami took control in the 4th quarter.  4 turnovers (3 Ints) did the Terps in.

Podlesh 5  41.6 Avg

MD 5-5  2-4 in ACC

Week 12  At Boston College  5-5  Loss 27-17

This is a tough one to lose when you are looking at the bowl picture.  This one was actually tied with 5:36 to go in the third after an 83 yard TD pass from Hollenbach to Goode.  A win would have made them 6-5 and more importantly ahead of BC, but now the Terps maybe on the outside looking in on the bowl picture.  Haven't we heard that a lot lately at MD?

Key Stats

Hollenbach 15-29  209 Yds  1 TD 1 INT

Ball 20 for 80 1 TD

Goode  3 for 110  1 TD

Philistin 6 Tkl  1 Int

Podlesh 6 for 41.7

Week 13 VS #14 Wake Forrest  10-1 (that is not a typo)  Loss  31-17

Natch I hit the wrong button and couldn't see the full box score

Lance Ball I can tell you was out for one week for breaking a team rule.  Wake had a 21-10 lead at he half.  Well there you have it another bowl less season.

Wake and Miami meet for the ACC championship and Miami wins 35-28.

The Heisman goes to Drew Tate, narrowly edging out Adrian Peterson.

The ACC bowl picture looks like this:

LSU VS GT in the Music City Bowl   L

Ohio St VS NCST in the Champs Sports Bowl   W

South Carolina VS Wake in the Chick Fil-A Bowl  W in OT

K St  Vs FSU in the Gator Bowl  L

VT VS WVU in the Orange Bowl  W  (WVU was undefeated)

Miami VS Auburn for the National Championship  W in OT

Tyson:  Clemson 5-7  2-6 ACC and you lost to USC

Aryan:  Georgia 6-6 4-4 SEC, and you lost to GT

There you have it.  This year EA is a little down on the Terps, and looking at seasons past, maybe that is a good thing.  See you all soon at the real deal.
