2007 Football Sims

Mid July!  Not only is it a time when all you O's fans start to lose interest in the baseball season, it is also the time everyone's favorite sports video game producer releases NCAA Football.  This year again we will be forced to have a couple of sims since the QB situation is up in the air.  I will go into most detail with Steffy at the helm, since he appears to be the leader after spring practice.  In the past EA has been high on the Terps and the real life hasn't been so good.  Last year they were down on our boys and they bounced back with a 9 win season, and fell just short of a trip to Jacksonville.   So if the past seasons are any indication lets hope they have a crappy season on the sim, and the real life turns out to be better.   Check back the morning before each game to check out a simulated game recap based on actual depth charts.  Til September this all we've got so enjoy it.

Preseason Polls

USC, Michigan, LSU, Florida, Texas, West Virginia, Wisconsin, Oklahoma, VT, and Arkansas round out the top 10, while the beloved Terps get little respect and come in at 40.  Heyward-Bey gets first team All-ACC, while TE Jason Goode and RG Andrew Crummey get second team.

Week 1 Vs Villanova (0-0)

MD wins this one like you would expect.   How does 69-3 sound?  Lance Ball starts the season off with a TD early.  MD racked up 532 yards of total offense and 338 of that came on the ground.

Steffy 12-16 194 3 TD 1 INT

Green  21 -   200  3 TD

Lattimore  6  -  48

Ball          7   -  45  1 TD

Hey-Bey   5 -  65  2 TD

I. Williams  3  -  59 1 TD

Philistin  5 Tkl, 2 tfl, 1 Sack

Erin Henderson   4 TKL, 3 INT, 1 Forced Fumble

Egekeze    2-2  Long of 33  9-9 XP

Week 2(1-0)  at FIU  (0-1)

Two Lattimore TD's and Steffy Run for a TD put MD up 21-0 and they roll up a 45-0 win.  450+ total yards offense again this week.  It appears Lance Ball was injured in week 1.

Steffy  17-26   222  1 TD  1 INT

Portis   4-4     73  0-0

Lattimore   22   111  4 TD

Green     2  24

Hey-Bey   8  119

Carrol  5-71

Williams   2  -  12  1 TD

Haynos   1-  43

Moore   7 TKL, 5 TFL, 1 Sack

Henderson  4 Tkl

Egekeze  1-1  45 YDS  , 6-6 XP

Week 3 (2-0)  Vs.  #5  WVU  (2-0)

This can't be good, Jeremy Navarre gets suspended 3 games for providing false paper work for entering school, Lance Ball is out two more weeks with a hip pointer, and Chase Bullock is out for the year with a broken ankle.  Now finally we can get to the on field results.  7-7 after one,  trailing 17-14 at the half and after a scoreless 3rd quarter.  The fourth on the other hand was a different story with WVU outscoring the Terps 14-0.  The total offense was down in this one, and WVU pounded out 235 yards on the ground.  There goes the National Championship!

Steffy   11-  32    140   2 TD, 2 INT

Lattimore  26-  161   1 TD

Hey-Bey  4-18  1 TD

Lattimore  1 -48  1 TD

Phillistin  7 TKL

Henderson  7 TKL

Egekeze  0-1  3-3 XP

Week 4  (2-1) MD at (1-2) Wake Forrest

MD got down 17 -10 at the Half, and never could inch any closer dropping this one, 31-21 in Winston Salem.

Steffy  13-28  138  1 TD

Lattimore  27   160  1 TD

Williams  3 -17

Hey- Bey  2 -36  1 TD

Frost  7 TKL

Henderson 5 TKL

Egekeze  2-2  Long 37, 1-1 XP

Week 5  (2-2) MD at #15 Rutgers  (3-0)

Carlos Feliciano will miss the first two quarters of this one for skipping a study group and going to a frat party.  25-13 deficit at the half turns into a 46-13 loss.  This is not looking good.  Each week the total gets a little lower.

Steffy  12-13  203, 1 TD, 3 INTS ( I can see the message boards clamoring for Portis already)

Ball   20- 78  1 TD

Haynos  5-103   1 TD

Hey-Bey  4-78

Henderson  10 TKL, 5 TFL, 2 sacks

Egekeze  0-3, 1-1 XP

Week 6  (2-3) MD Vs. GT (2-3)

Steffy is suspended two games for lying about missing an exam.  Easy decision for cyber Fridge to make the switch.

How does 28-7 at the half sound?  Not good if you are a MD fan.  42-10 final, and the Portis show fails to take off.

Portis  15-24   218  1 TD

Ball   15- 90

Portis  9-3yds

Williams  5-71

Haynos  1-75  1 TD

Henderson  8 TKL

Philistin, 7 Tkl

Egekeze  1-4, long of 30, 1-1 XP

Week 7  Bye

Week 8  (2-4)  vs (3-4) UVA

This one will haunt them for a long time.  Giving up 14 points in the final 5 minutes in a 31-24 loss will do it every time.

Portis  19-29  151, 2TD

Ball 31-  176 1 TD

Portis  6 - 58

Williams  7-63  2 TD

Hey-Bey  4-30

Henderson  9 TKL

Egekeze  1-1 long of 32  3-3 XP

Week 9  (2-5) MD vs #23  (6-1) Clemson  Cyber pumpkin carving contest

A 37-10 shellacking at the hands of the Tigers.  MD did manage to have a 7-6 lead at the end of the first, but that was it.  115 yards of total offense will do that for you.

Wow  Steffy   2 of 24, 55 yds  0 TD, 4 INTS

Ball   18-62  1 TD

Hey-Bey  2-55

Henderson  9 TKL, 3 TFL, 1 Sack, 1 INT

Egekeze  1-1 FG, 1-1 XP

Week 10 (2-6) MD at UNC  (3-5)

10 4th quarter points by UNC give them a 31-24 win.  Another tough loss late.

I missed the stats.  Natch.  Steffy did have at least one TD to Oquendo

Bye the way no bowl game.

Week 11  (2-7) MD vs #11 BC (8-1)

MD jumped out to a 14-0 lead in this one, before giving up 36 unanswered points to the Eagles.

Steffy   11-29  115 1 TD 1 INT

Ball   18-59

Green  2-7  1 TD

Williams   4-43

Haynos  3-57  1 TD

Moore   9 TKL, 2 TFL, 1 Sack

Henderson   9 TKL, 4 TFL, 2 Sacks

Egekeze  0-1, 2-2 XP

Week  12   (2-8) MD vs. FSU (8-3)

This is how we remember the FSU MD games of old.  57-7 whipping at the Doak.

Steffy  8-23  141, 1 TD  4 INTs

Portis  0-1  1 INT

Ball   12-66

Hey-Bey  4-73  1 TD

Henderson  7 TKL , 1 Sack

Egekeze   1-1 XP

Week 13  (2-9) MD  at NCST (5-6)

Another week, another loss.  Did you expect anything different?

Steffy   15-25  146  2 TD, 2 INT

Ball   17-65  1 TD

Hey-Bey   8-62  1 TD

Lattimore  2-14  1 TD

Clinton  6TKL, 2 TFL, 1 Sack

Egekeze  3-3 XP

Season ends with a 2-10 record.  That is the worst sim season ever I believe.  Lets really hope the trend of being the complete opposite of the sim continues this year.  Clemson faces VT in the ACC Championship game, and Clemson wins 37-13.  Colt Brennan (QB Hawaii) wins the Heisman.  Erin Henderson was 1st Team ALL-ACC.  Clemson faces Michigan in the Orange Bowl and loses 28-21.  Georgia loses 62-28 to Texas A & M in the Music City Bowl and finishes 8-5.  This is the toughest part to write in the entire article.  WVU wins the national championship over Arkansas  49-7.

Season Stats:

Steffy    116  -250  1514 yds 14TDS 19 INTS

Portis   38-58  442  3 TD -1 INT

Ball  158  797  5 TD

Lattimore   90  510  6

Green  35  295  4TD

Hey-Bey   51 -  620- 6TD

Williams  36  393   4 TD

Heynos   19    395   3 TD

Henderson   83 Tackles, 7 Sacks 5 INTS

Again Brennan wins the Heisman

MD goes on to lose the game to Ohio State 38-21

POG  Portis  18-30 230, 11 carries 80 YDS

As if having WVU win it all wasn't bad enough, somehow PSU shuts out Cal in the National Championship game.  Can it get any worse?

Ball   217 - 1351  10 TD

Well thats about all you need to know.  Remember to check back each week for the in depth game sim complete with updated depth charts for both teams.  Enjoy the rest of the summer.   If it appears Turner is going to get the nod, I will do a sim for him as well.
