EA Sims 2009
Wow, it is hard to believe we are about to kickoff our 6th season of Terps games sims. It is time to dust off the old PS2, and fire up the NCAA Football 10. I did have to go out and order the rosters off the internet since EA did such an awful job of roster updates before releasing our game. The start of college football season is here, and in what is becoming a trend when I do this each July, the Orioles seem to be an afterthought to the AL East. But enough baseball, it is time for the cyber college football season to begin. Virginia Tech is the highest rated ACC team at number 10, followed by UNC 16, GT 18, FSU 20. No Terps are in the Heisman watch, but week one opponent, and on field puker, Javid Best is rated 4th in the preseason. Maryland is picked to come in 5th in the Atlantic, and 10th overall according to our friends at EASports. With that let's kick off the season. Week 1 Maryland (0-0) at #15 Cal (0-0) Well if this is how it is going to be I might just skip the cross country flight I have planned. Cal jumps out to a 21-7 lead at the end of the first, and 42-14 at the half before Maryland gets 9 in the 3rd and Cal finishes off the scoring with a 21-0 4th quarter. Turner hit Kevin Dorsey in the first to tie the game at 7, but that was about it. I am not positive, but it appears Turner may have been injured, unless Friedgen wanted to lift him in the second quarter? Anyway Turner was 14 of 17 for 175 yards and 1 TD. Da'Rel Scott ran the ball 10 times for 32 yards and 1 TD. Maryland did hold Javid Best to 72 yards and 1 TD. Lee-Odai led the receivers with 7 catches for 139 yards. Alex Wujciak led the defense with 8 tackles, 2 sacks and a safety.
Week 2 James Madison (NA) vs Maryland (0-1) It may be time to hit the panic button. JMU jumped out to an early 17-0 before Lee-Odai, and D. Scott scored for the Terps to cut the lead to 17-14 at the half. Unfortunetly the teams each traded two TD's the rest of the way and the Terps fall to 0-2 with a 31-28 loss. Turner was 20-34 for 236 with two TD's and two INT's. D. Scott rushed for 96 yards and a TD, and A. Lee-Odai had 6 catches for 69 yards and a TD. Adrian Moten led the Defense with 6 tackles.
Week 3 Middle Tennessee St (0-2) at Maryland (0-2) Here is the revenge game the Terps had better be ready for. But before kickoff Jared Harrell has been suspended three games for skipping mandatory workouts. In the battle of the winless teams Maryland jumped out to a 14-0 lead, but trailed going in to the half 20-17. Thanks to a 14-0 third quarter, MD was able to hang on for a 34-32 victory. Turner was 24-38 with 360 yards, 3 TD's and 2 INT's. D. Scott had 18 carries for 126 yards and 1 TD. Kevin Dorsey had 7 catches for 78 yards and 1 TD. Laquan Williams had five catches for 113 yards.
Week 4 Rutgers (3-0) at Maryland (1-2) This is one we all have circled. Maryland tied the game at 7 late in the first quarter on a 19 yard pass from Turner to Scott, and took a 10-7 lead into the half. Maryland outscored Rutgers 11-0 in the third, and both teams scored 14 points a piece in the 4th quarter as the Terps pulled out a 35-21 victory handing the Scarlet Knights their first loss of the season. Turner was 20-38 for 177 with 1 TD. Kevin Dorsey had 8 catches for 75 yards, and a TD. Alex Wujciak had 6 tackles for a loss and 10 total to go along with a forced fumble in the win.
Week 5 Clemson (2-2) at Maryland (2-2). We all know this game has a little more meaning as we have friends and family members that are Tigers, and they always bring a big crowd to our tailgates. Maryland jumped out a a 7-3 first quarter lead, but that was quickly erased as the Tigers scored 35 straight to finish the half with a 38-14 lead. That was as close it as it would get as the Tigers held on for a 53-28 victory. Turner threw two TD's but again it appears the TO's were a problem as he threw three. Davin Meggett rushed 20 times for 118 yards and two TD's. It appears Scott was hurt in the Rutgers game as he had only one carry that game. Week 6 Maryland (2-3, 0-1) at Wake Forrest (5-0) Wake jumped out to a 10-0 lead and never looked back. Maryland added two late fourth quarter scores to make it a respectable 38-33 loss. Again Turner tossed two TD's, but 3 TO's seem to be his ackilies heel. Meggett rushed for 93 yards, Lee-Odai had 128 yards receiving. Week 7 UVA (0-5) at Maryland (2-4, 0-2). The big rivalry game. Morgan Green was suspended three games for getting in a fight at practice. Maryland loses another one 42-31. This time Turner didn't have three interceptions, he had 4 to go along with two TD's. Still no Scott, and Meggett rushed for 113 yards and a TD. Lee-Odai had 7 catches for 140 yards, and 1 TD. Week 8 Maryland 2-5, 0-3 at Duke(1-3) You would like to think they could win this one! Maryland uses 14 second quarter points to take a 21-14 lead that they would never let go of on way to a 42-28 victory. Turner threw for 328, 6TD and NO INT's! Meggett had three receiving TD's to go along with 96 rushing yards (no TD's rushing). Week 9 Bye
Week 10 Maryland (3-5, 1-3) at NCST (4-4). Another sibling rivalry game for us this week. Maryland jumped out to a 14-0 lead, but would need a 12 yard pass from Chris Turner to Kevin Dorsey in OT to escape Raliegh with a victory, and to keep the bowl hopes on life support. Turner threw 4TD's and only 1 INT. D. Scott was back in action with 136 yards and one TD.
Week 11 #18 Virginia Tech (6-3) at Maryland (4-5, 2-3). Not quite the game I had imagined when I knifed through our schedule, but none the less a game against VT is always a big one. Maryland ended the first quarter 7-7, but from there on out, the Hokies outscored the mighty Terps 31-14 enroute to a 38-21 loss. Turner was held to 161 yards, 1 TD, and 1 INT. Like last year, the story of this game was Darrell Evans and his 190 rushing yards.
Week 12 Maryland (4-6,2-4) at #15 FSU (8-2). Maryland must win this to keep bowl hopes alive. Maryland jumps out to a 13-0 lead after the first quarter, but FSU answered with 14 going into the half. The teams traded TD's in the third, and FSU scores 14 unanswered in the fourth on the way to the 35-20 loss. No bowl this year. Do the stats really matter? Turner was 9-24 for for 207 with 1 TD and 1 INT. Lee-Odai, and Dorsey were both over 100 yards receiving.
Week 13
Boston College (5-6) at Maryland (4-7, 2-5) This game also goes to OT , but BC becomes bowl eligible with a FG in OT. Turner finishes his career with 204 yards, 1 TD and 1 INT. D. Scott rushed for 123 yards and a TD.
That brings the Maryland portion of the season to an end. Florida State faced off with Georgia Tech for the ACC championship game and won 38-14. Tim Tebow and his jorts win the Heisman again. 12-0 Oregon faced off with 13-0 Florida in the BCS Championship game and Oregon wins it 14-9. Chris Turner did break Scott Milanovic's single season TD pass record by one at 27.
So there you have it. According to EASports, the Terps will have a down season. Usually cyber wins, and actual wins in the preseason sim don't add up, but let's hope it is better than this. So check back the week before the season opener when both teams depth charts have been released for the full game sim. Until them enjoy the rest of your summer.
