G. Tech Tailgate Recap

Georgia Tech Tailgate Wrap-Up:

My take on the tailgate:

Overall:

I think I am growing to like the 3:30 starts.  Kind of the perfect time.  Not too early, not too late.  You get to tailgate during the warmest part of the day, and you don’t have to worry about being sleepy when the parking lot finally clears out.  Also the second half of the game feels like a night game anyway.  Once again I had a great time at the tailgate.  However, it was by far the years most unusual tailgate and I did head to the football game with a strange “WTF just happened” feeling.

Tailgate Highlights:

Another reason I enjoy the 3:30 start is the money breakfast sandwiches.  Breakfast is one of the best meals of the day and having it with bloody Mary’s and beer turns it into some kind of super out of this world meal.  Chris and J did an excellent job on the grill with the breakfast sandwiches. Those little English muffins with egg , American  cheese, and mini sausage patties were indeed a highlight.  However, if anyone would have been brave enough to try out my “Russian Pancakes” idea, we could have made breakfast history, but alas.

Tailgate Lowlights:

This is where I get a little confused.  How did our beer pong game get shut down by the cops?  I must say I am a little confused.  Did we not just feed them a couple hours ago?  That brings up another point.  We not only offered them food we cooked them food from scratch.  It is one thing to have a pile of burgers sitting on a plate and offering them one but we had to take them out of the cooler and cook them and get out the condiments and buns and the whole 9 yards.  I have no problem with this.  I think everyone at the tailgate respects the job they do and do not envy them having to work on game days.  So since we were on good terms at that point, they let us take breathalyzers for free.  It was fun and those that took part got a good experience out of it.  So later they come back and some take another breathalyzer test.  Allegedly Chris blows a .33 (if his blood alcohol level was .33, then I am the solution to the Maryland QB controversy).  So anyway, Chris blows the alleged .33 and the situation goes from joking and having fun to shut down.  I agree with the cops that if Chris was running around with a .33 something should be done.  With that being said, I don’t agree that Chris was anywhere near a .33 (ever in his life).

Tailgate MVP:

This was a tough week to pick an MVP, there were a lot of solid candidates.  Chris had a firm grip on it after the breakfast sandwiches, but lost some points in the polls due to him blowing the .33 thus shutting down the tailgate.  Shannon gets an honorable mention for the great turtle creation and Brian Lee also gets an honorable mention for reasons which I won’t go in to.  But after thinking long and hard, and no disrespect to Shannon and Brian Lee, I am going with J.  J was a sleeper all day long.  He helped with the breakfast sandwiches and carried all the stuff in his truck.  However, it was not until the end of the night when it was time to pack up did he really come through.  I don’t know how he got all of that stuff into his truck and as much as he wanted to leave and go home, somebody had to stay and pack up.  Good work J.
