MD at Dook 1/11/06
Recap by: Chris B.
Well, the game we all look forward to when the schedules come out was finally here. We love nothing more than to see all the nerds painted from head to toe in blue silenced as the Terps exit the unfriendly confines of Cameron Indoor. We have had more success there than any other team, and we had won our last 3 against them dating back to our ACC tourney win. There was reason to be excited for this one considering we swept them last year despite in turn being swept by Clemson (3 times). Even the poor performance against Miami, didn't seem to hinder the optimism. Well before we knew it, 7-0 for Dook. Ball game. 11-6 would be about as close as it would go. Being down more than you scored at the half doesn't bode well either (23 down-22 scored). A 9 minute stretch with no fg's. (keep in mind it easier to get a fg in bball than it is in football). Poor shooting (30.2%), even worse ball handling (29 TO's), and a look of bewilderment all together spelled pure embarrassment for this team. The last time I felt like this was the UCLA debacle in the Tourney. This was bad. We were exposed for what we are. A team with no ball handler, no inside game, no out side game, and no leader/go to guy. You try to root for these guys, but with the effort, it looks like they put forth it is tough. I believe Bob said it best. We have had teams, with much less talent, that have been more fun to watch, because they laid it on the floor every game out. Game highlights: I had to search high and low for this one, but we shot 76% from the charity stripe. There is absolutely nothing else!!! There were a few individual plays that stand out, and had they won, we would be talking about them today, but it is awful tough to praise a good play, when the bad ones were ten fold! Game lowlights: I don't believe our server has enough gigabytes for me to do this section. I saw someone post this on Terptown, and thought it was a very interesting way to show the overall futility the team showed in this one. No player had more than 1 assist (tough when the team has 6 total), Only Ibekwe and Bowers had more assist + made FG's greater than TO's.
