Miami Recap
“Typical” Bob W.
Of course no one is going to believe me, but I knew we were going to lose this game. I mean this had “L” written all over it. On the road against a weaker opponent, coming off a long win streak, and the kicker, with Duke coming up on Wednesday. If this team has shown us anything in the past 2 year it’s that only Duke matters. It does help that this was a road game and winning on the road in conference isn’t the easiest thing to do. But watching today, I just knew we were screwed from the get go.
Speaking of the get go, why does it take this team so long to get ready to play. Granted we weren’t going to win today anyway, but starting down 0-13 is just a recipe for disaster. It took us 25 minutes to come within one point after that start. And as soon as we got there all hell broke loose. Of course it didn’t help that Miami couldn’t miss a 3, and the Lethal Weapon 3 (Harris, Hite, and Diaz) combined for 65 points!
As a result Maryland falls to 1-1 in the conference and now must recover in time for Wednesday match up with Duke.
D-7 MVP- This is not an award I really want to give out, but I guess I have to for the sake of consistency. Looking at the box score you have to give it to Nik Caner-Medley. The problem I have with this though is that he filled up his stats after the game was decided. He also disappeared when we need someone to rise up, but in all honesty, who else would I give it to? Though the grades given out today aren’t that bad, no one showed any leadership out on the floor today and I am starting to worry that this is going to be a reoccurring theme for this team.
Honorable Mention: I think DJ gets the honorable mention. He shot decent, though he could have done a little better at the line. He didn’t have a great game, but again no one else deserves it over him.
Random Thought of the Day: I would like to see the Bud Light Daredevil attempt to watch a Maryland basketball game without cussing or throwing things. Now that would be a feat.
Factoid Alert: Maryland had been averaging 85 points a game before today’s debacle.
Bubble Watch: Record: 11-3 Rank: 14 (for now) Quality Wins: #6Boston College, Arkansas, Minnesota Bad Losses: None yet, had Miami been in CP, I would count that, but on the road, I’ll let it slide. Outlook: 5 seed
