UNC Recap

By Bob W.

“Sigh”

                                    Bob W.

It is getting harder and harder to watch these games now days.  I remember last Wednesday at work before the FSU game, I all of a sudden realized we were playing that night, and my first reaction was “Damn, I was having such a good day today, now I know I’m going to be pissed off tonight”.  So with all the enthusiasm of a soft drink junkie leaving for his trip to the dentist, I sat down on the couch to assume my normal Terp watching position.

In order to survive this turbulent time in the Maryland Basketball program you really have to change how you view things.  I think back to an episode of the Simpsons (shocker) in which Homer gives Bart the following advice “Leave your body and become emotionally dead”, and that’s really what you have to do.  So while the Old Bob would have put his foot through the TV screen during Maryland’s 1-15 shooting spell, the new Bob chooses to laugh and enjoy the rarity of seeing 12 guys on scholarship at a major university shoot 6.7% over a 7 minute spell.  Let face it, you don’t get to see THAT every day.

Anyway, back to the Terps.  I guess I need to pick out an MVP, and runner up.  My god this is going to be like Home Coming Queen at Duke, no ones worthy, but you gotta pick someone.

D-7 MVP-  I’m going with the Big Skinny on this one.  Though for some unexplained reason (only 2 PF) Ekene Ibekwe only played 22 minutes, he still lead the team in scoring with 12 points.  He was also was able to shot adequately from the foul line something that he as been struggling with lately.  But again, this game didn’t really have an MVP.

Honorable Mention:  Hmmm, do you give it to the guy who shot 3-16 or do you give it to the guy who shot 4-14.  Tough choice, but I am going to give it to Nik (3-16) just because he scored in double digits (quite an accomplishment when the whole team only scored 57) and he had 3 assists to 1 turnover which sticks out like a sore thumb on the box score.

Random Thoughts:  Why am I not putting down 100$ a night on the Terps opponents.  I don’t think anything would have surprised me more than a Terp’s win last night.  It’s like I am just passing up free money.  Who wants to go in with me the rest of the season?

Enemy of the State:  Tyler Hansbrough just killed us inside with 21 points and 7 rebounds.

Bubble Watch:

We are no longer even on the bubble.

Record now 16-11

Conference Record 6-8

Quality Wins:  Arkansas, BC

Bad Losses:  Too many to name.

Outlook:  We are most definitely on the outside looking in.
