NCST Sim

Well Bob missed the weather by a few degrees as kickoff was a crisp 59.  Md received, and low and behold Joel starts the day off with an interception on his first pass and NCST took over on the MD 26.  The D held and forced a 43 yd FG attempt that was wide right by John Deraney.  On NCST's next possession a hug sack by Shawne "Lights Out Merriman on 3rd down to force a three and out.  Statham regrouped after the pick and on 2nd and 10 connected with Derrick Fenner for a 57 YD Td pass with 1:57 remaining in the first.  After a punt by each team MD drove down field to get into position to allow Das Boot to attempt a 41 yd Fg that was good with 3:q5 remaining in the half.  On MD's next possession Fridge brought out some trickeration with a pitch out to Allen and then he threw back across the field to Statham for . . .  a 1 yard loss.  Nice try but NCST had a player spying on Joel and hit him immediately.  Md gets the ball again after three consecutive incomplete passes by Jay Davis.  With 1:11 left in the half Statham went to work hitting Parsons, then VD on an excellent catch and run for a first, and then Suter to get the ball down to the 5 yard line with 41 seconds left.  On first down he hits Suter but the back Judge ruled he was OB to the dismay of the MD Fans.  Eventually MD throws a screen pass to Josh Allen on 3rd down for a 3 yard loss and bring out Das Boot to convert a 24 yard FG to give the Terps a 13-0 lead heading into the half.  Byrd is rocking on this homecoming game as the teams head to the locker room.  Joel looked very confident in himself during that 2 minute drill.

To start the second everyone was very shocked to see Amato stick with Jay Davis, and Davis paid dividends.   Immediately Jay Davis looked like Payton Manning to start the half, and got State into FG range and they connected on a 21yarder after a nice goal line stand lead by Kevin Eli and  Lights out with 1:19 remaining in the 3rd.  The fourth quarter saw both teams punt once before MD got the ball back and Josh Allen and the O-line took over.  Md winds up running down the clock and getting down into FG range.  MD takes a knee much to the dismay of the student section who would love to see nothing more than to run up the score against NCST.

Key Stats

J. Statham 11-20 157 yds 1 td 1 int

J. Allen 13 for 57 yds 2 catches 27 yds, 1 for 1 passing -1

D. Fenner  4 catches  82 yds 1 TD

K. Eli 5 tackles (3 for loss, 2 on goal line stand)

Well if this is the outcome I will take it.  I was very scared after seeing Statham throw the pickle on his first attempt, and was shocked to see Fridge stick with him, but it paid off in the end.
