EA Sports Champs Sports Bowl 2006 MD VS Purdue The Cyber Terps roll into this one at a decent 7-5, while a real Terps are at a very rewarding 8-4 (yes it is a disappointment, but at the beginning of the season, there is no scenario I could imagine calling 8-4 a disappointment). EASports even lets you unlock bowl stadiums so we are off to the Citrus Bowl, complete with the rainbow colored ORLANDO sign on the score board. Everyone is calling this one a toss up, Herbie and Corso both go with the Terps however. A beautiful night is Orlando is about to get started. The Terps will be kicking off. The opening kickoff is taken out to the 36 by Dorien Bryant. Two passes by Painter and Purdue is across midfield to the 44. 3rd and 1 for Purdue from the MD 35, a pitch to Cory Sheets and it is a loss of 4. They are going for it, direct snap to Sheets, and he is stopped, and fumbles. MD takes over at the 42. Ball breaks a few tackles and gets 10 and a first down. Ball up the middle for about 16. Ball for 3 more. 2nd and 7, Ball goes left and gets down to the 14. They have no answer for the MD line. Ball up the middle to the 9. Direct snap to Ball for no gain. 3rd and 5 from the 9, play action to ball and hits a wide open Isaiah Williams in the corner of the end zone. Ennis in for the try and it is up and . . . good. 7-0 with 1:29 left in the quarter. Obi kicks off and it is returned to the 26. Incomplete on a deep pass down field on first. On second down Painter gets the ball out to the 49 on a nice crossing play. 2nd and 10, from the 49, Painter rolls out and hits Bryant sliding across the 32. 1st and 10, Painter hits Bryant for 11. We have no answer for their passing attack. On first down, Varner made a nice pass break up. On second down, the give is to Sheets and he fumbles, but recovers it. 3rd and 10, and the pass goes to a wide open Greg Orton who makes one move and gets into the end zone. The XP is good by Chris Summers. 7-7 with 4:55 left in the 2nd. Heyward-Bey returns it to the 21. Ball gets one up the middle. Ball gets about 10 more for another first down. Ball up the middle for 3 to the 36. Ball spins off a few tackles and picks up 4. 3rd and 3, pitch to Ball left, he gets the corner and picks up another first up to the 44. Ball right for a gain of 8, after breaking a tackle. Ball gets the first across midfield to the 45. Ball takes it up the middle for one more. Ball on a delay draw gets one more. 3rd and 8, from the 43, Hollenbach hits Haynos, for just enough for the first. Ball gets a few, but there is a holding call on Jamie Thomas. 1st and 19 from the 44, give to Ball, gain of 7, TO MD with 1:25 left in the half. Pitch to Ball, a nice block by Cory Jackson, and Ball gets a few more. 3rd and 4, and Ball is stopped for a loss of 2. They are going for it. Hollenbach was poised in the pocket, and hits Hey-Bey to the 20. :20 seconds left. Hollenbach looks for Hey-Bey again, INC. This time Hollenbach hooks up with Isaiah Williams on a slant for another TD with 0:14 left. Nice pass and Catch. Ennis is out, and the XP is good. Obi's kick is returned to the 20. 0:11 left in the half. A give to Sheets and he is met in the gap by Wesley Jefferson with a big hit! The half ends, with MD up 14-7. PU to kick off the second half. Josh Wilson returns it from the 7 to the 30. From the "I" Ball gets 2, and 100 for the day. Cory Jackson gets a carry for a gain of 5. 3rd and 3, Ball gets it, breaks a tackle behind the line of scrimmage and gets across midfield to the 47. He gets 6 more on first. 2nd and 4, Ball stopped for a loss of 2. Play action and Hollenbach is brought down square in the middle of the Champs Sports Bowl logo. (EA has it down perfectly). Podlesh to punt, and a faircatch is called at the 17. Play action, and the pass was deflected, but right to Orton for a first down to the 38. Another Play action to Bryant who out leaped Wilson for another first to the 47. Direct snap to Sheets and he is met by Dre Moore, who causes a fumble, and it is recovered by David Halloway. Excessive celebration backs the Terps to the 36. 1st and 25. Hollenbach hits Oquendo for 20. Ball for no gain. 3rd and 5, Hollenbach is stopped on a keeper. Podlesh to punt again. Fair catch at the 9. Give to Sheets, and he is stopped for a loss of 4. 2nd and 14, Direct snap to the Full back, a strip by Conrad Bollston, and it is recovered in the end zone by Dre Moore for a TD! Ennis is out again, and the XP is good. 21-7 with 0:13 left in the 3rd. Bryant brings the ball out to the 18. Painter looks down field on a fake option, and hits Desmond Tardy for a big gain to the 46 as the quarter comes to an end. Painter hits Bryant for a gain of 4. 2nd and 6, incomplete pass. 3rd and 6, and the pass is complete on a curl route for a first to the 37. Give up the middle to Sheets for 3. Painter hits Sheets for a gain of 3. 3rd and 3, and Marcus Wimbush levels Painter for a sack. 4th and 7, they are going for it, but Painter throws into double coverage, and Wilson, breaks up the pass. Ball gets the first carry for 9 after a shoestring tackle stopped a huge gain. 2nd and 1, from the 43. Ball gets 2, to the 45. 2:27 and counting. Ball gains 4 more on first to the 49. PU takes a TO, with 1:56 left. Ball up the middle for the first, and he has 142 on the day. Ball gets 3 more. 1:43 and counting. 2nd and 7, Jackson splits out, Ball right up the gut for a big gain, to the 27, but again the Terps are flagged for a celebration flag. 1st and 25. On first there is a holding. 1st and 32, TO PU, 0:48 left. Hollenbach gets into victory formation, and takes a knee. 2nd and 34, 0:32 and counting. Hollenbach takes another knee, and that does it! MD pounds it out until they got the redone, and then Hollenbach hooked up with Williams for two TD's. Thanks to all the Cyber-Seniors for a great season. There is a reason you have not seen any bball sims and it has nothing to do with the webmaster) for the preseason sim of the 07 season, one we for sure are looking forward to.
