Temple Game Recap
By Bob W.
Overall:
I know I feel a lot better about our chances in Morgantown this weekend. I went into the game knowing what I wanted to see, and the Terps gave me what I was looking for, an offense that could move the ball at will, and a defense that was suffocating. This was a good win for the program and a great confidence builder for both players and fans.
Game Highlights:
I think it is only appropriate to place the entire first half as the games highlights. 28-0 sends a message to all future opponents. Joel Statham played solid and looks to have settled any doubts about his ability to lead this offense (for now). Once again our RB’s looked solid. Though a little banged up, they dominated. Maryland’s ability to convert on 3rd down was also huge.
Game Lowlights:
Though I was at Marathon by the time they got in, the low lights had to be the play of the second string defense. Hard to get upset at a bunch of back ups, after all they are only in there to get some experience. I do feel that there lack luster play did allow the game to appear closer than it actually was. (May have also cost some gamblers a lot of money, do I hear point shaving scandal anyone?).
Game MVP:
Once again a lot to chose from. Wesley Jefferson made the most of his playing time as well as Sam Maldanodo who had to carry for banged up Josh Allen (who should be ready for the WVU game). But I am going to go with last weeks goat as this weeks MVP. Joel Statham looked great. The said all week long how great he did in practice and I feel like he carried that on to the field with him on Saturday. If he can play like this week in and week out, Maryland will have a shot at perhaps 9 wins. However, we will see what he does in Morgantown before we get too far ahead of ourselves.
