UMKC at MD
2006-2007
By Chris B.
Well after the poor performance against BC, there were some
starting lineup changes. One I love, the other I not sure about yet.
Boom gets the nod over Ibekwe, (I love this one), and Vasquez started over Hayes
(not sure about this one). I'm not sure what the future hold, but It is
nice to have some muscle inside. Vasquez played very well in place of
Hayes, and get this, did not jack up a shot and ended with 8 assists. He ran the
offense pretty well, and Hayes played well at the off guard. Boom started
the scoring with a dunk and the Terps never looked back. Terps
started out hot from behind the arc and it never stopped. Mike Jones
dropped a career high and team record 9, all in a row, after missing his first
three (could have used a few of them against BC), and the team made 17 (also a
team record) out of 37. That's right they jacked up 37 three's.
Who do they think they are, Dook? Anywho here is the list of players that
made a three: Jones (9), DJ (2), Hayes (2), Brown (2), and McAlphin (2) one of
which was at the buzzer to get the team over a hundo after GW asked him not to
shoot. That brought back memories of Donny Judd banking one in high off
the glass. Hayes played a nice game getting more minutes at the two, where
he looked good. He has a nice stroke, and I look for him to get a little
more assertive on the offensive end. Well, the Kangaroos from the
University of Missouri - Kansas City were not much of threat for the Terps, and
at one point our boys went on a 30-something to 4 run, and the lead was
52-16. Though this game may not have meant much, I will take a blow out,
and maybe it will teach this team how to go for the jugular. For one thing they
didn't play down to their competition. They dictated the flow and were in
high gear all night. Strawberry contributed 20, Gist 14 and 11 boards.
It was a night to pad stats, and they did so before an announced sell out that
looked more like 5,000 on the idiot box. Well lets just hope our "student"
athletes are all kicking butt on their finals, and come out ready to take on the
Eagles from American on the 23rd.
