UVA Game Recap 11/6/04
By Bob W. Virigina Game Recap
Overall:
Why is it the only game I am not around to write the recap for is the game we win. I am getting pretty tired of these losing recaps. Anyway for those who live in a cave, we have no offense, our defense spends way too much time on the field and when the football gods occasionally smile on us, we are unable to convert. We now have our backs to the wall and are one game away from being eliminated from post season for the first time since 2000. In addition our QB has a banged up collar bone and is questionable for Va Tech. But enough of the pity party, lets move on to the game recap.
Game Highlights:
Hmmmm game highlights. Let’s see. I guess I have to pick something don’t I. I guess I will go with the first half of the first quarter. The defense played well and caused some huge turnovers. Unfortunately the offense was not able to capitalize and we were still shut out. I guess I could also say D’Qwell Jackson’s play was a highlight as well. Between him EJ and Juan, it really makes you wonder how they hand out those stars when they are ranking recruits. (D’Qwell was only a 2 star recruit, unbelievable).
Game Lowlights:
The offense’s inability to take advantage of breaks was a lowlight in itself, but if I had to pick a specific low light, it was the failed 4th and inches. I just knew watching that play that we would somehow botch it. UVA’s defensive line is tough and there must have been at least 25 Cav’s on the line of scrimmage. It didn’t help the Joel couldn’t stay low for the lunge forward. That play stopped any momentum Maryland had and they never were the same afterwards. Reminds me a little of the last time the Terps were in Charlottesville and a certain WR dropped a wide open TD pass.
Game MVP:
D’Qwell Jackson is the MVP, and no I am not picking him because I picked him to win the MVP on Friday’s poll (4 Votes People? Are you all too busy for the Terps?). You could make a case for Dutch Davis, since he was the only person on the offense with a heartbeat, but giving out an MVP to an offensive player after a shut out is a little silly. The fact the D’Qwell didn’t immediately come to mind really shows how great he has been this year. The man is a stud and I hope he chooses to serve out the rest of his eligibility here at College Park. But he has certainly earned his right to go play on Sundays.
Extra Points: Once again since there is no tailgate wrap up I would just like to end with a few points:
Go Terps!
