WVU at MD

2007 Sim

Hopefully all the cyber traffic has died down out there on the Beltway and everyone is in their seats to see the kickoff of this one.  The real and cyber Terps both own identical 2-0 records.  The weather looks to be about perfect as Meteorologist Bob W. has suggested it will be after a slight scare of hurricane remains across the region.  Nessler, Corso, and Herbie are excited about the lack of love for the rivals.  They all do say WVU's running game will be the difference as Corso puts on the Daniel Boone hat.  Captains to the center of the field and MD will be kicking off after losing the toss.  Byrd is rocking.  Let's hope it stays that way.  Roberts' kick is returned out to the 28 by Vaughn Rivers.  White's first pass is incomplete.  On second down he hits Wes Lyons for 7.  3rd and 3, White rolls out and Hits Schmidt for a first to the 47.  Play action pass is incomplete after nice coverage by Barnes.  White takes off on the option, and just as he is hit, pitches it to Slaton for 5.  3rd and 5, Slaton on a draw, and Dre Moore had it read all the way.  WVU forced to punt and a fair catch at the 17, by Oquendo.  Steffy gives to Lattimore, and he fumbles, after a big hit, recovered by the Hoopies at the 15.  White throws again, incomplete on first.  White option to Slaton who takes it down to the 3.  First and goal, White from the shotgun gives it Slaton on a draw, loss of 1.  Same play right, and Christian Varner makes another stop for a loss of 1.  3rd down, pitch to Slaton, who rumbles down to the one after a stop by Barnes.  They are going for it.  Option, left, and they string it out.  Turnover on downs!!!  99 yards to pay dirt.  Lattimore no gain up the middle.  Lattimore gets it again, breaks a tackle and gets out to the 6.  3rd and 5, and Steffy is sacked at the 2 on a play action.  Baltz on to punt from deep in the end zone.  He gets it off and Rivers returns it to the 41.  Fake to Slaton, White takes off for no gain.  It appears the game plan is to make them beat them with the pass.  As the quarter comes to an end White completes a pass for 6.  Option and Philistin sticks White before he can get rid of it.  4th and 9, punt team is on, and a fair catch is called, but he lets it bounce, and it is downed at the 13.  Steffy takes off right up the middle, fumbles, but it is recovered this time for a gain of 4.  Steffy hits Haynos for a gain of 3.  3rd and 3, Lattimore gets off left tackle for the first, check that, clipping on Haynos, and it is now 3rd and 13 from the 10.  Killer!  Steffy over throws Haynos going down the side line.  Baltz again from the end zone.  Rivers returns it again.  Ball at the 37.  Erin Henderson makes a stop for a loss on a White keeper.  2nd and 12, Slaton goes right and gets 10, 3rd and 2, with 2:40 remaining in the half.  Pitch to Slaton and he breaks one, but not 2.  Philistin gets the stop and a flag for unsportsmanlike.  Automatic first down at the 15.  Brutal.  White takes off, and finally is forced to pitch it to Slaton for a gain of 5.  TO WVU.  Option right gets it to Slaton for the first and another TO from the 4.  1:45 left.  Toss right to Slaton and he gets in untouched for the touchdown.  XP attempt is good.  Stupid penalty leads to the first points on the board for the game.  Kickoff to Terrell Skinner who gets it out to the 27 from the 7.  1:40 left.  Steffy hits Lattimore on a quick hitter, and he beats the defense and is pulling away, there is a flag on the play, and it is offsides!!!  TD MD, Lattimore takes the pass and goes 73 yards.  Egekeze on for the XP and it is good.  1:33 left in the half tied at 7.  WVU only has one TO left.  Roberts to kick, and it is taken out to the 28.  MD keeping it away from Reynaud.  White goes deep and it is dropped by Dorrell Jalloh.  White connects with a receiver along the sideline, but he is ruled out on the catch. 3rd and 10, White down the middle and it is complete for the first to the 42.  White throws right and it is picked off by Nolan Caroll and returned to the 24.  1:00 left.  Byrd is rocking.  Lattimore pounds it up the middle for a gain of 4.  TO MD, Steffy hits Heyward-Bey to the 7.  TO MD, 0:50 left.  First and goal.  Latttimore up the middle and he coughs it up, recovered by WVU.  Use some stickem boys!    Slaton on the pitch for no gain.  Clock down to 25 seconds.  They seem content to run clock here.  White does throw and it is complete across the middle to the 19.  Clock expires.  7-7 at the half, and the penalties and turnovers are absolutely killing the Terps.  This could be a lead at the half.

Skinner returns it out to the 28.  Place Kicker Pat McAffe is injured on the play.  Lattimore seems inspired and takes a big run out to the 43.  Lattimore up the middle for 2.  Lattimore gains 9 more for another first.  Lattimore goes right and gets one.  A huge hit on him.  The kicker is out with a sprained elbow.  Steffy hits Lattimore again for another first to the WVU 32 (that rhymes).  Pitch to Jackson on some sort of a trick play for a loss of 3.  Lattimore up the middle for 2.  3rd and 11 from the 33.  Steffy has time, hits Haynos across the field and he gets it to the 14 for a first down.  Lattimore up the middle for 2.  Steffy throws to the end zone, for Heyward-Bey and it is picked.  Flag on the play is holding against Dane Randolph.  WVU takes over at the 20.  Are you serious.  White takes off on first, makes one move, and is gone for 80 yds and a TD with 1:32 left in the half.  14-7 WVU, what a momentum swing.  Kickoff takes by Skinner to the 25.  Lattimore up the middle for 3. Lattimore stopped for a loss on the play.  3rd and 9.  Steffy goes down field and hits a diving Danny Oquendo to the 35 of WVU , what a pass. Steffy is down, and out.  Turner checks in.  Lattimore up the middle for 1.   Lattimore no gain.  3rd and 9.  Turner throws to the end zone, and it is dropped by Heyward-Bey as he is hit.  Egekeze on from 51.  The snap, the hold, and it is good.  14-10with 4:52 to go in the game.  Roberts kickoff. Returned to the 33.  White hit as he throws, and fumbles, recovered by JJ Justice.  Lattimore takes a pitch right, and is going to go all the way for a 27 yard TD.  XP is up and good.  17-14 with 4:41 left.  To much time.  Reynaud takes it on a reverse and fumbles.  Recovered by MD.  They take over at the 29.  Turner must have been watching old Scott McBrien footage as he pulls the fake hand off and run for a gain of 9+.  Lattimore, no gain.  3rd and inches at the 9.  Jackson gets it and pounds it down to the 3 good for a fist.  Lattimore for a gain of 1.  He earned that one.  Lattimore tries to go right, but he stopped for a loss of 2.  3rd and goal from the 4.  Jackson gets the ball and he stopped for a loss of one.  Egekeze on for the 22 yard FG and it is good.  20-14 with 1:54 left.  TOO MUCH TIME.  Roberts kicks, Reynaud returns it out to the 25.  Byrd is rocking yet again.  A big gain, but the booth is reviewing it.  Looks like it will stand, and it does.  First and 10, from the WVU 42.  White goes deep to Dorell Jalloh for a gain of 35 to the MD 23.  That was quick.  White runs right, and is stopped for no gain by a couple of defenders.  Slaton breaks a couple of tackles and gets 5.  3rd and 5 from the 18.  Pitch to Slaton, and he is stopped for no gain.  TO WVU.  Forced to go for it White throws, and Moses Fokiou picks it off and takes it all the way to the house.  Bedlam.  MD is going for two.  Turner drops back and hits Haynos for the conversion.  Unbelievable.  Roberts kicks off.  White passes and gets it out to midfield.  First down, pass incomplete.  White hits another receiver OB.  0:26 left.  White under center, drops back and it is incomplete.  White rolls out, heaves it down field and hits Tito Gonzalez for a TD.  XP pending and it is good, by the back up kicker.  Onsides.  Oh I can't stand to watch.  0:16.  Even Megan is mildly entertained by this.  The kick, and it is recovered, by Chris Clinton.  Turner takes a knee.  WVU takes their final TO.  Another knee, and that should do it.  3, 2, 1, pandemonium erupts at Byrd.  I don't believe it.  Corso and Herbie comment on how exciting it was, and I concur.  Now lets hope the real Terps give us the same feeling I have now!
