WVU TAILGATE RECAP

By: Bob W.

Overall:

The noon games are always tough, add in the fact that we had to get up at 6:00 am to drive an hour plus out to Morgantown and it gets even tougher.  Though it was hard getting up, the Denton 7’ers still some how managed to do it, I believe we were drinking by 8:00 am.  Once again out in Morgantown we had what is most likely the years best tailgating:  ribs, chicken, crackers, dip, chips, brownies, and of course the shrimp (you have to bring your own seafood when you travel from Maryland to West Virginia).  Hat’s off to the Gilmore’s, but more on that later.

Tailgate Highlights:

The food, was hands down the highlight of the tailgate.  Those ribs just fell off the bone, the chicken was awesome, the shrimp was great.  I really don’t know what else to say, sure there were some flip cup games that were legendary (original D7’ers rocked the Kasbah) but the food was definitely the highlight.

Tailgate Lowlights:

Well in a way we came back to where it all began.  The beer pong table that is.  After destroying the last table at the 2002 WV game, we began in our minds what became the 2004 beer pong table.  Kind of like this years Olympics, having the shot put in the original Olympic stadium, we were looking forward to celebrating the beginning of serious D-7 beer pong back at the original site.  However, it sure would have been nice if we had remembered ping pong balls!  Anyway, flip cup filled in nicely, though you can’t play that for nearly as long as you can play beer pong.  Trust me.

Tailgate MVP:

No brainer here.  The Gilmore family and their western Maryland hospitality shined once again.  I think I speak for everyone when I say thanks to Matt, Mr. and Mrs. Gilmore.  The food was awesome, letting us crash at your place was awesome and hanging out with you all was awesome thanks again.  I will also give props to Matt, who had he not received the original MVP would have been honorable mention with his Doug Flutie like performance in the post game tailgate QB challenge, he changed certain defeat into unimaginable victory with his two Hail Mary’s.

Funniest thing a West Virginia fan said to me:

“You guys suck, I don’t even know how you were good enough to play us in the Gator Bowl last year!”
